Peter S. Curtis ,FounderBorn and raised in Northern New York, Peter S. Curtis began Curtis Furniture Company in 1981. His love for woodworking while creating and designing with his hands brought him to the trade of Cabinetmaking. Peter has a love for antique heirloom creations and the true art of cabinetry. His grandfather, Samuel H. Curtis, a journeyman wood patternmaker for Kodak in Rochester, NY, and his Father, S. Harold Curtis, an Industrial Arts Teacher, taught him at an early age to work with his hands and to appreciate the beauty of wood. In a small town in New Hampshire, Peter became an apprentice under a master cabinetmaker who taught Peter the correct way to build quality furniture. Throughout Northern New York Peter is well known for his exemplary skills and passion for designing and building fine heirloom furniture and exquisite cabinetry that lives on from generation to generation. Peter spends most of his time today, overseeing and creating the “Shop Layouts” for each and every piece of furniture and cabinet design that goes through the woodworking shop. He ensures that each piece is designed to perfection and puts his special touch and trademark on each.
Mark P. Curtis ,CabinetmakerThe apple did not fall far from the tree with Mark P. Curtis. Since has far back as Peter can remember his son Mark, had a true interest in his father’s work and the cabinetmaking trade. His skills started at a young age, when he started building small cutting boards and plant stands for his elementary and junior high school teachers. While attending Jefferson Lewis BOCES he excelled in his carpentry class and ended up becoming NY State Champion for the Cabinetmaking spot for the VICA program offered by BOCES. Mark completed his 5-year apprenticeship program with a Journeyman’s Cabinetmaking certificate. For the past 17 years, he has used his skills at Curtis Furniture Company, side-by-side with his father creating fine furniture and cabinetry with incredible results. His attention to fine detail and superb craftsmanship shows through each piece that goes through the woodworking shop at Curtis Furniture. From the moment, the “Shop Layouts” are passed to him in the shop- to the final delivery and installation of the product, Mark oversees each project. While, Mark is the Project Manager and lead builder now, he has skilled cabinetmakers and fine finishers that work side by side with him. Mark’s passion for every customer drives his carpentry and cabinetmaking expertise and strives to create welcoming, comfortable and beautiful cabinetry and furnishing for each and every home.
